Mechanical Lungs

Mechanical Lungs invites the viewer to gaze in between three breathing rhythms. Three offwhite natural-fabric sacks inflate and deflate continuously; The sacks seem to be breathing in and out, each at their own pace. A small speaker is implanted inside each sack, enhancing the piece with a hidden sound layer that at some point goes out of sync from the movement of the sacks. A sort of mechanical ballet of breaths in two acts, a tasty polyrhythmic composition that includes the dramatic scene of a slow death.

The outcome is a very delicate and gentle gesture in space.
